Resurface a fraction, spare the rest

Full-surface resurfacing produces excellent results and two weeks of recovery that almost nobody can take. Fractional treatment keeps most of the benefit by treating only a percentage of the surface in a grid of microscopic columns; the untreated skin between them supplies the cells that repair the rest, which cuts healing from weeks to days.

We choose the density and depth against what you are treating. Broad sun damage and crepey texture want shallow, dense passes. Deep perioral lines and old scars want fewer, deeper columns. We will also tell you if your skin type carries a higher risk of post-treatment pigmentation, and pre-treat for several weeks if so rather than proceeding on the day.

The session runs under topical anaesthetic and cooling. Afterwards the skin is red, hot and swollen for about forty-eight hours, then dries into a fine bronzed texture that sheds over days four to six. Day seven is usually the first day most patients feel presentable, and we recommend planning the appointment against your calendar accordingly.

Aftercare is simple but not optional: bland emollient, no actives, no sun, and no picking. Almost every poor outcome we see from resurfacing elsewhere traces back to week one rather than to the treatment itself.

New collagen continues forming for three months after each session, so the final result of a course is judged at three months past the last one, not at the last appointment. Two to four sessions is a typical course; we book them one at a time and review each before scheduling the next.
